Behind every business are people with a story and ours begins with two women, almost fifty years of combined experience, and one shared goal:
To show small and medium-sized businesses that accountants can be so much more than the people you only hear from at year-end.
We are Lyn and Crystal, co-founders of Delphini.
Our journey into the world of accounting has been shaped, above all, by a passion for helping people understand their numbers so they can make confident decisions for the future.
Lyn’s career started at Wimpey Homes PLC, fresh out of university with a degree in accounting and a curiosity about how businesses really worked.
She moved on to a mid-size firm in Luton, managing a broad portfolio of SMEs.
Lyn qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2002 at the same time Crystal joined the firm straight from Sixth Form.
Lyn played a key role in mentoring the next generation of accountants, including Crystal, who went on to also qualify as a Chartered Accountant in 2007.
In 2008, Lyn moved on to another larger firm in Luton and was joined shortly after by Crystal.
Eager to take on new challenges, Lyn became a senior manager there, managing a substantial client portfolio and again playing a key role in mentoring and training the next generation of Chartered Accountants.
Crystal worked alongside Lyn in her team, eventually progressing to board level where she also had a key role in leading teams, and shaping apprenticeship programmes for aspiring accountants.
As accounting and business advisory evolved, we could see the possibilities to be more human, tailored and responsive with our clients.
We wanted to put aside the backwards looking, reactive and deadline driven approach and look forward for the people behind the business in a more impactful way.
It was here that the idea for Delphini was born.
After working together for over twenty years, we realised we wanted to build something of our own: a firm that felt approachable, modern, and completely invested in the success of its clients.
We chose the name Delphini (dolphin in Latin) as it encapsulated what we were and how we wanted our business to be:
Intelligent, fun loving, loyal and committed individuals who work well and collaborate with others.
We didn’t want to be just another accountancy practice, but a team that values clarity, conversation, and the people behind the businesses we support.
Of course, starting a business isn’t without its challenges, but we faced them head on making sure we dedicated we spend time working on the business as well as in it.
We have embraced the world of digital tools to make sure we have the time and resources to stay on top of shifting regulations, growing expectations an above all being human with our clients.
Our biggest aim was to break away from the traditional “tax man” stereotype, showing that accountants can be strategic partners, problem-solvers who help shape businesses, not just record what has already happened.
Working with small and medium-sized businesses means every day is different.
One moment we’re helping a start-up plan for growth, the next we’re supporting a long-established family business through complex financial decisions.
But the best part, for both of us, are the relationships we’ve built along the way.
Seeing our clients grow in confidence, gain clarity, and feel in control of their numbers is what keeps us passionate about what we do.
Between us, we’ve trained future accountants, embraced new technology, and built a firm that’s agile, approachable, and ready to adapt to whatever challenges come our way.
For us, accountancy has never been just about numbers.
It’s about people, progress, and giving business owners the tools to write their own success stories, one spreadsheet at a time.
